(Worthy News) - Over a dozen Christians in Burkina Faso were shot dead as an Islamist insurgency with links to ISIS and Al Qaida sweeps through the country.

Gunmen, whom authorities are still working to identify, entered a Protestant church in the village of Hantoukoura during worship hours Sunday morning and killed 14 people.

Barnabus Fund estimates that between April and June, 56 Christians were killed in the West African nation that used to be known for religious toleration.

Local Christians in September told the Church in Need that the Fulani ethnic group, with whom they used to live in peace, are receiving outside arms and support to carry out religious-ethnic cleansing against Christian villages.
