(Worthy News) - The daughter of a murdered pastor in India was shot last week, five years after the death of her father and in the same house.
Due to a government lockdown, the Purty family had moved back into the house in which their father was shot in 2015 by a radical Hindu gang.
“Is this the house of the pastor who was killed?” two men at the door asked the family on April 16th, Morning Star News reports.
After some translation difficulties were resolved through a change of dialect, the threats of the strangers became clear.
“That pastor was killed, but you did not learn a lesson,” the men said, according to Sharon Purty. “You have continued assembling in large numbers for Christian prayers. Where is the woman working as spy?”
When Neelam Purty, another daughter, came from her room to see what was the matter, the men identified her as the target they were looking for and shot her in the thumb, sending her to the hospital.
The family is currently looking for a new place to stay, but is afraid due to a lack of available safe destinations as a result of the government lockdown.
India is number 10 on Open Doors USA's World Watch List for the persecution of Christians, but was 31st in 2013, the year before Narendra Modi and the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected.
