(Worthy News) - Islamic terrorists are believed responsible for the murders of over 100 people in DR Congo last month, and a large number of those murdered were from Christian communities, International Christian Concern reports. Known for deadly violence, the rebel Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group is believed to have intensified its targeted attacks on Christians.
On January 4, militants killed 25 people in the village of Tingwe in the Beni region of neighboring North Kivu province. That night, an estimated 22 people were slaughtered with guns and machetes in the nearby village of Mwenda, ICC said. At least 17 people from the area had been murdered with machetes a week before these attacks.
Then, on January 14, militants killed 46 people from the Pygmy ethnic group in Ituri province, ICC reports.
In a statement, Illia Djadi of the Open Doors watchdog organization said: “These predominantly Christian communities are attacked by an Islamic extremist group with a clear Islamic expansionist agenda.”
According to Open Door, violence against Christians in the DRC is among the worst in the world. “Please join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in the DRC, for the end of such heinous acts of violence, and for the souls of those who perpetrate them,” International Christian Concern has asked.
