(Worthy News) - A mob of Hindu nationalists assaulted a Christian prayer gathering in Nagepur village in Telangana State on Jan. 17, resulting in the hospitalization of six Christians.
Pastor Nitin Kumar told International Christian Concern that the mob tore his cassock as he received punches and kicks from all directions. Bibles were forcefully taken away from the believers and then torn apart and trampled under foot by the mob.
Following the assault, everyone from the prayer meeting was able to meet and account for one another at a local church.
"We cried together for what happened and prayed and encouraged one another," said Kumar. "We did not have energy to go and inform the police as none of us were in a good shape."
The Rev. Ronald John, President of the Telangana Christian Joint Action Committee, told ICC that Christians were paying a high price for following Jesus in what is supposedly a free nation where everyone has the right to profess and practice their own religion.
