(Worthy News) - The ongoing jihadist slaughter of Christians in Nigeria has intensified to such an extent that 700 Christians were reportedly murdered in Plateau, one of the worst-affected Nigerian states, last month alone, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law NGO attests in a new report. More than 50,250 Nigerian Christians have been murdered by Islamic jihadists since 2009, with Nigeria’s Muslim-led government unwilling to do anything to stop it.
In its report titled “Martyred Christians in Nigeria,” the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law described the killing of 700 Christians in Plateau state in May this year as “one of the bloodiest in anti-Christian attacks in Nigeria,” the Christian Post reports. The reports attest at least 300 Christians were slaughtered in just three days between May 15-17.
While Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa insurgents have murdered a great many Christians in Nigeria, the worst threat against believers comes from Fulani jihadist herdsmen intent on removing Christians from their land and imposing Sharia law.
“The International Society report comes as Nigerian Christians and human rights groups have voiced concerns for years that the violence being carried out against predominantly Christian farming communities in the Middle Belt states by radicalized herdsmen has reached genocidal levels as thousands have been killed in recent years,” Anugrah Kumar noted in a report for the Christian Post.
The Nigerian government has denied there is any genocidal, religiously motivated element to the killings, claiming the mass slaughter is simply the result of farmer-herder fighting. Regardless of the cause of the slaughter, the Nigerian government has done nothing to protect Christians, even as international rights groups consistently raise the alarm about genocide.
