(Worthy News) - As Islamic militants continue the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria, suspected Fulani Muslim militants murdered a Christian doctor in Niger state and 17 other Christians in Plateau state this month, International Christian Concern reports. At least 1500 Christians have been killed by Islamic militants this year alone; the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in its 2021 annual report that Nigeria has become a “killing field for Christians.”
On Thursday last week, suspected Fulani militants abducted Dr. Precious Emeka Chinedu from the hospital he worked at in Niger state, took him into the bush, and shot him dead, ICC reports.
A further 14 Christians were murdered by suspected Fulani militants in Jos South County, Plateau state on June 13, ICC said. Seven other Christians were hospitalized following that attack. On June 12, Fulani killed two other Christians, and wounded two more in Bassa county, Plateau state. Also on June 12, Fulani shot and killed a Christian farmer in Jos North County, Plateau state.
Referring to the 1500 Christians who have been killed in Nigeria so far this year, Mike Popeo, the Senior Counsel for Global Affairs at the American Center for Law and Justice said in a statement: “The Nigerian government thus far has sought to downplay the attacks, characterizing them as conflicts between herders and farmers rather than as religiously motivated acts of terror.”
ICC has called for prayer into the situation: “Please pray for peace in Nigeria, and for the Lord to comfort those grieving the loss of loved ones due to violence. Please also pray for the perpetrators of these attacks, that they will be blessed with knowing the truth of the gospel and accept Jesus as their savior.”
