(Worthy News) - This month’s spate of murderous attacks on Christians in Nigeria’s Benue state has continued, with suspected Fulani jihadist herdsmen killing dozens of Christians on Wednesday, September 21, and Friday, September 23, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.
Six predominantly Christian villages in Benue state’s Togo County were targeted on September 23. “These attacks by the herdsmen have left dozens of Christians dead, and several more with gunshot injuries and machete attack wounds,” area resident Ukan Kurugh told MSN.
“Survivors of these herdsmen attacks have been taken to some hospitals, and they need urgent medical attention but lack the funds to pay for their medical bills. Some of them need urgent surgeries, but they can’t afford to pay for the charges.”
Togo County had previously suffered attacks on the villages of Mou and Mchia on was also attacked on September 21.
“Our people have suffered immensely in the hands of these marauding herdsmen,” Kurugh said.
In a press statement about the constant attacks on Christian communities in Benue, Rev. Akpen Leva, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State Chapter, said: “Armed herdsmen and terrorists have not stopped their unprovoked attacks on Christians in Benue state. These attacks are aimed at killing defenseless Christians and to force them out of their communities.”
“We condemn in strong terms these unprovoked attacks and loss of lives in these affected Christian communities and call on security agencies to rise up to the challenge in order to curtail the activities of these bloodthirsty herdsmen,” Leva added.
Islamic terrorist have murdered tens of thousands of Christians in Nigeria in recent years, with rights groups repeatedly warning of a Christian genocide.
