(Worthy News) - In addition to murdering 700 Christians this month, Fulani jihadist herdsmen in Nigeria’s Plateau state also destroyed dozens of farms belonging to believers, with the intent of taking them over to raise livestock, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.
Amid repeated reports of a genocide being carried out against Nigerian Christians by Islamic jihadists, Nigeria ranks 6th on the US Open Doors World Watch List 2023 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
According to ICC, Fulani jihadists commandeered 37 farms in Plateau state’s Christian communities, and destroyed the crops growing there. Some 66 acres of land growing containing maize, soybeans, and potatoes were decimated in Bassa County, ICC said.
“One tactic of the radical Fulani has been to let their cattle stray and graze on Christian farmland, claim the animals were stolen, and return to attack the farms and communities,” ICC explained in its report.
Fulani terrorists murdered over 2,000 Christians in Bassa County alone between 2017 to 2022, and destroyed more than 200 hectares of farmland.
In a statement to ICC, the leader of the Irigwe Youth Movement said the destruction of Christian-owned farms has caused losses of about $13 million; the government has offered no relief or compensation.
