(Worthy News) - As the slaughter and kidnapping of Christians in Nigeria continues, on September 11, suspected Fulani jihadists murdered a Christian security guard during the course of abducting a pastor from his church premises in Plateau state, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.
Church security guard James Ngyang was killed by armed gunmen who stormed the premises of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Ganawuri, Riyom County, Plateau state, MSN said. The killers went on to abduct the church’s leader, Pastor Bung Fon Dong, wounding his wife at the same time.
In a statement to MSN, area resident Danjen Bagu Gang said: “Armed gunmen we believe are Fulani terrorists attacked Ganawuri and abducted the Rev. Bung Fon Dong alongside James Mann, who later escaped from the hands of the kidnappers.”
“The gunmen stormed the RCC [Regional Church Council] chairman’s residence, at about 10 p.m., shot and wounded the pastor’s wife, and killed one James Ngyang, a member of the church and security church worker, before they forcefully took away the pastor at gunpoint,” Gang said.
The terrorists have since demanded a US$46,650 ransom for the pastor’s release, MSN reports. Alfred Alabo, deputy superintendent of police of the Plateau State Police Command, said in a press statement that police are working to track down the killers and rescue Pastor Dong.
Nigeria ranked number one in the world last year for Christians murdered (4,650 between Oct. 1, 2020 and Sept. 30, 2021) or kidnapped (3, 530 between Oct. 1, 2020 and Sept. 30, 2021), the Open Doors USA rights group reported.
