(Worthy News) - Islamist Fulani terrorists murdered 15 more Christians, specifically targeting leaders, in Nigeria’s Plateau state last month, the Barnabas Fund reports.
Tens of thousands of Nigerian believers in Christ have been slaughtered in the last decade: rights groups, such as the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, have referred to Nigeria as a “killing field” for Christians.
Seven farmers were killed between October 1-7 in Christian-majority farming communities in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Barnabas reported. During this time period, a pastor in the same area was attacked and suffered injuries.
Five villagers, including two community leaders, were murdered in the Christian villages of Shorom, Wang, and Kulyas in Bokkos Area during attacks on 8 and 9 October, Barnabas said.
On October 17, Islamist gunmen on motorcycles opened fire in the Christian-majority community of Nyalun, Wase Local Government Area, at around 9.30 pm, Barnabas said. The militants murdered three people, including village leader, Salisu Idris.
“They went straight to the traditional ruler’s house, killed him, and abducted five members of his family,” a local youth leader told Barnabas. “They also killed two other people.”
According to a local Barnabas source, Islamist attackers target the heads of Christian communities to increase the level of confusion and terror they create. “They want to destroy the administrative setup and cause chaos,” the source said.
