Chinese Christians seek refuge in Thailand after asylum denial from South Korea

A congregation of Christians escaping government persecution in China are applying for refugee status in Thailand after being denied asylum in South Korea, DW reports. In its efforts to impose “Sinicization” on the country, China’s ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been engaged in a formidable crackdown on independent evangelical churches that will not register with the state-controlled Three-Self Patriotic movement.

Xi Jinping: China doesn’t need “preachers” on human rights

China’s President Xi Jinping told the UN this week that his country doesn’t need ‘preachers’ to ‘boss’ it around on the issue of human rights, Fox Metro News (FMN) reports. Xi made his remark during a video call with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, despite facing accusations of gross human rights violations against the Uyghur and other Muslim minorities, and of systematically suppressing Christianity nationwide.

Cuba: Government gives no information on imprisoned pastor

Cuban authorities have still not responded to a written request by five United Nations advocates for information on Pastor Lorenzo Rosales Fajardo of the Monte de Sion Independent Church in Palma Soriano, who has been in prison since his July 2021 arrest during a peaceful protest against the communist government, Christian Headlines (CH) reports.
