(Worthy News) - A 24-year-old Christian college student in northern Uganda was murdered last month by a suspected radicalized Muslim because he had been sharing the Gospel on his school campus, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. While Christianity is legal in Uganda, Christians, especially evangelists, have been increasingly vulnerable to deadly attacks by radicalized Muslims.
Last month’s murder victim was Jeremiah Mwanga, a second-year student at the Uganda Christian School of Professionals in Lira, Northern Region, MSN reports. Jeremiah was allegedly killed in his room at the school by a Muslim identified only as Chengalat, who also lived on the premises.
In a statement to MSN, a friend of Jeremiah’s, whose name is withheld for security reasons, said: “Jeremiah complained about messages from one of the students threatening to kill him for misleading Muslims by preaching to them the gospel of Christ as well as converting them to the Christian faith in the school. He requested prayers from the Christian Union fellowship.”
On April 14, Jeremiah’s friend heard from a room on the school premises at about 10 pm, MSN reports. “After 30 minutes, I rushed to the scene of the incident and found out that it was Jeremiah’s room,” the friend said. “Inside the room was a pool of blood.” Jeremiah was then rushed to Lira Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The killing was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented,” MSN said in its report. The suspect, Chengalat has been charged with Jeremiah’s murder and is in custody awaiting trial, MSN said.
