(Worthy News) - Another Boko Haram attack in northern Nigeria has caused all the villagers of a local town to flee.
On Saturday residents of Yimirmigza village in Borno state originally mistook sporadic gunshots in the early evening for a military exercise, but were soon proved wrong by terrorists who arrived and claimed the town for their own.
“We don’t know if there are casualty yet because right now the insurgents are still in charge of the village,” an unnamed source told This Day, a Nigerian newspaper. “Most of the villagers have run into the bush.”
In 2014 Chibok, a town neighboring Yimirmigza village, was the site of a mass kidnapping of primarily Christian schoolgirls by Boko Haram, whose name roughly translates to “western education is forbidden.”
On Monday the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings cited a “lack of accountability” for perpetrators in the Boko Haram insurgency that has killed 35,000 people, many of whom have been Christian, since 2009.
